Although 2014 was the inaugural "Fayetteville Uncorked", the Fayetteville Wine Society has executed two other charitable wine tasting events in the Fayetteville area. These include our first event in 2009 called "The Fayetteville Wine Society's Spring Gala and Charity Wine Tasting and our 2010 event called "The Gathering in the Garden". The former benefited the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund. This organization, although not local (based in Temple Hills, Maryland), was a small, independent, and volunteer based organization founded in October 2003 as a means of providing College Grants and Financial Assistance to surviving children and spouses of our U.S. military service members who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. If you want to know why we chose them, please click here. The latter, our second event, benefited the "USO of North Carolina". This organization is a part of the large USO organization, but operates specifically in NC and supports those troops based at military installations in this state. The 2014 event benefited Fayetteville Cares, a 501(c)3 a local non-profit organization supporting the service members and families of Ft Bragg. Some of the highlights of Fayetteville Cares activities since it was established in 2007 are: Boots and Booties (2008, 2011 and 2013), a community baby shower for active duty moms and moms to be, Operation Holiday Cheer
(2009) which sent 10,000 care packages to deployed Ft. Bragg service members over the holidays, and Basics 4 Barracks, an ongoing program supporting returning single soldiers living in the barracks. This program alone has supported over 16,000 soldiers to date.
